MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens have signed forwards Daniel Carr and Connor Crisp to entry-level contracts. Carr signed a two-year deal with the Canadiens. He recently completed his senior season with the Union College Dutchmen, leading the team in scoring en route to an NCAA Division I national championship. In 39 games with Union, the Sherwood Park, Alta., native recorded 50 points (22 goals, 28 assists) and 28 penalty minutes. Crisp signed a three-year deal after completing his fourth Ontario Hockey League season with the Sudbury Wolves and then joining the AHLs Hamilton Bulldogs for the end of their season. In 67 regular season games with Sudbury, the Alliston, Ont., native recorded 55 points (28 goals, 27 assists) and 120 penalty minutes. In seven regular season games with Hamilton, the 20-year-old recorded two goals and two penalty minutes. In 184 career OHL regular season games with the Wolves and Erie Otters, the 6-3, 226-pound forward recorded 97 points (55 goals, 42 assists) and 308 penalty minutes. Rick Porcello (9-4) pitched six scoreless innings for the Tigers and Joe Nathan worked the ninth for his 15th save. But it was a big Martinez night for Detroit. Victor Martinez homered off Corey Kluber (6-5) in the fourth inning. J.D. Martinezs home run, following an intentional walk to Victor Martinez, came in the eighth off John Axford. J.D. Martinez was 3 for 4, extending his hitting streak to 10 games during which hes batting .447 (17 for 38) with four homers and raised his average to .317. "You see occasionally players get on a hot streak like this and I hope hes hot tomorrow," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. Victor Martinez, providing a big threat behind Miguel Cabrera, has 18 home runs and 47 RBIs with a .328 average. "When the season started I said the only guy who can protect Miguel is Miguel, but Im going to say now the other person who can protect Miguel would be Victor," Ausmus said. "So theres at least two."
