Who does TSN work with to ensure that stadium designs are realized with television in mind?It really is a partnership. We work with the CFL head office, the local team, and the design group theyve hired, so its basically a four-pronged group that works together to share their perspectives. From the leagues standpoint, they work with us on video review, so we have to ensure we have the correct angles to support the video review system. The league also provides video for each teams coaching staff. They install a minimum of two cameras per game to shoot various angles so they can teach the players. So the league is very active to make sure that space is there for them. Its quite an active dialogue from all sides.New stadiums have opened in cities across the CFL in recent years. Are there challenges that come with broadcasting from a new venue for the first time? The game ball from the 1976 Grey Cup, which was won by the Ottawa Rough Riders.Theres no blueprint for stadium broadcasts: Winnipeg is vastly different from Ottawa, or Hamilton, or from the design thats now taking place in Regina. Each one is creative in its own way, and that leads to additional challenges. But we have a full crew on hand for the Redblacks opener, and theyll be testing everything. After two or three games, we typically have everything running smoothly. In Ottawa, we had one hiccup with our end zone camera: the only place we could realistically put it was on top of a two-and-a-half storey building connected to a condo. So we worked through it with the developers, the Minto Group, and we now have a position there that will act as an end zone camera not only for us but the CFL as well. It doesnt matter how well you plan, there are always challenges. What do you have planned for TSNs on-site panel from the home opener at TD Place? James Duthie on the TSN desk at TD PlaceFor the opening game at TD Place, weve got a nice little corner position down at field level. Well have our TSN set there with James Duthie and Jock Climie on it, and there will be interviews with Ottawa football greats Russ Jackson and Tony Gabriel. Theyll pay a visit to the set, and were also hoping to have CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon join us for an interview as well.James is from Ottawa and hes a big CFL fan, so we wanted to include him, and Jock lives in Ottawa and played for the Ottawa Rough Riders, so we think thats a good fit to complement our main CFL ON TSN panel, which will broadcast from Toronto.Along with TD Place stadium, the entire Lansdowne Park area is currently undergoing a complete redevelopment. What are the most interesting elements of it?I was fortunate enough to produce games from Frank Clair Stadium back in the day, as well as hockey games from the Civic Centre arena, so Im very familiar with the area. They tore down the south stands, which was a good thing, and the new south stands are quite amazing. Theyve also renovated the north stands, which now look almost brand new, though theyve been there for quite some time. New seats and some paint can do wonders. And the seat colour structure, with the red, black, and light grey, certainly lends itself to a pretty camera picture.Ottawa Rough Riders legend Russ JacksonBut the best thing about the stadium is that the surrounding area will be fantastic. With newly constructed condos in the area, new restaurants, new bars, a cinema, and lots of added green space, the environment theyve created at Lansdowne Park will be a destination for people in Ottawa. That coupled with a sharp-looking stadium will make for a great experience for anyone whos planning to go to both Redblacks games and any other events held there. Dillon Peters Jersey . The six-foot-four, 258-pound defensive lineman missed the Saskatchewan Roughriders season-opening 39-18 win over Edmonton last week while serving a suspension. George was forced to watch the game on TV at home and got into hot water with his wife. "I had to watch it in the basement," George told reporters in Regina this week. "My wife sent me down to the basement, (with) all the yelling and screaming. "Its real, real difficult because youre sitting at home and youre like, Man, I would have went that way, or, Man, I would have done this. I was texting guys during the game so at halftime they had a couple of messages from me." George was suspended for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Calgary quarterback Drew Tate in last years West Division semifinal. The CFL issued the ban following the playoff game but ruled because the Stampeders had won that George would have to serve the suspension to start the 2013 campaign. The good news for Saskatchewan is George is expected to start Friday night in the Riders home opener against none other than Calgary. "Im the little kid out of the yard this week," said George. "Im ready to play." Like Saskatchewan, Calgary opened its season on a winning note, downing the B.C. Lions 44-32 last week. Riders head coach Corey Chamblin is confident the suspension taught George a valuable lesson. "He doesnt want to have to sit out again," Chamblin said. "I think thats the biggest positive is to make sure that when he plays, he plays to the whistle and not after the whistle." Calgary running back Jon Cornish, the CFLs top Canadian last season, played a big role in the Stampeders opening victory. He ran for 172 yards and scored twoo TDs against the Lions.dddddddddddd Last season, Chamblin publicly stated prior to a game against Calgary that Riders defensive players would lose their jobs if Cornish ran for more than 100 yards in the contest. Not only did Saskatchewan win the game 30-25 on Sept. 23, but Cornish rushed for 67 yards on 12 attempts. There was no such edict this week from Chamblin, at least not publicly. "We watched a little bit of film and he (Chamblin) made a couple of points so I think its an unspoken challenge," George said. "He might not have come out and said it in the media, but he definitely made a point during film to show us how (Cornish) was running through a couple of people and what we cannot let happen." Calgary didnt emerge totally unscathed from its opening contest as defensive tackle Corey Mace suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Two years ago, Mace, 27, was lost for the entire 2011 campaign after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the season opener. "It popped out and I thought I just dislocated it," Mace told reporters in Calgary this week. "I put a sleeve on it at halftime and during the game, it kept slipping out. "Any time you get injured, its disappointing but first game of the season is very disappointing. To do it all over again like 2011, I really dont have words for that." The six-foot-three, 285-pound Mace will now attempt to serve as a mentor to his younger teammates as he recovers from his latest setback. "Theres pluses to it being that I have so much time to recover for the next season," he said. "It just sucks, man, to be honest. "So its just now helping out with the young guys and getting these guys going. We have a lot of guys who can still get the job done." ' ' '
